Welcome to the fourth instalment of our ‘Meet McGowan’ series, where we’d like to introduce you to Armando Monteiro, who joined as a Ground Worker in June 2021.
Armando was born in Namibia, his mother’s native country, with his father from Angola. He moved to Portugal to flee the region’s civil war when he was 9 years old and spent 21 years there before moving to Scotland in 1997. After almost 25 years in Scotland, Armando now considers himself Scottish and is happily settled in the Highlands with his wife Dionne and four children, Leah, Telmo, Josh and Halle. Armando said:
“I’ve worked in the housing and civils sectors for many years and was delighted to get the opportunity to join McGowan last summer. I received a very warm welcome from the team and it is a wonderful company to work for. I am so happy and I really do enjoy my job, it is perfect for me.”
Armando has established himself as a key member of the Bridges & Structures team and has worked on a number of projects at locations across Scotland, including Arran, Loch Lomond, Dumfries and Lairg in Sutherland. Armando has clearly been impressed by what he’s experienced and commented:
“The Directors and Managers are all very down-to-earth and have made me feel really valued since I arrived. This has not been the case in some of my previous employment but at McGowan I am 100 comfortable in who I’m working with and working for! We are well looked after and the support provided is outstanding.”
We are delighted to have Armando with us and would like to wish him all the best for 2022.
